Ladybugs ~ Life Cycle By Andy Pariseau Ladybugs are fun little critters, everyone likes them. Besides being cute, they are voracious predators. They eat aphids, the scourge of the garden. 20 years ago Natural pest control suppliers started offering Ladybugs by mail order. "Buy these, release them and your garden will be aphid free". The variety most often sold were the Asian Lady Beetle, their colors and spots vary widely but they are recognizable by the "W" on the head. They really do control aphids but releasing them in your garden only works if you have aphids. They will fly away in search of food. Now home owners get invaded with them in the fall, as they seek winter shelter. This invasion is the only down side that I have noticed. Small price to pay to control aphids.
